How EV home charging cost is calculated

The formula is simple: kWh added = battery capacity × (target % − start %), then cost = kWh ÷ charging efficiency × your rate. Level 1 charging typically lands around 85% end-to-end efficiency because the onboard charger and battery management run for far longer, while Level 2 charging is closer to 92%. Both draw the same electricity price per kWh, so Level 2 is cheaper mainly because it wastes less energy and finishes inside cheap overnight off-peak windows.
